"Welcome Grander Marlin Heavy Tackle Rods. Discussions began on these rods to facilitate a need for a stout heavy tackle trolling rod with top of the line components at a fair price. All rods have Winthrop guides– quiet, reliable and super durable with consistent roll, even when the rod is loaded up to the max. These things are proper weapons to go to battle with.

I started working with my good friends at Da Hunter to design these trolling rods, and one of my most important requests was having them be able to handle heavy drag without killing the angler — with smooth bounce back and a stiffness that can handle the drag we use and our style of fighting out of the chair. I also wanted to make sure they had the back bone to stand up on a stubborn fish or lock up and plane a big marlin out of death dive.

The custom design and color has the purple drip that really stands out with a heavy layer of abalone shell at the base to add some extra spark and glow. These no doubt will be head turners, and people will be asking you where they can get their own pair.  The craftsmanship and artistic design needs to be seen to be believed.   

I also understand that not all of our customers are fishing for 1000 lb marlin, so we do have a few options we will be offering. The Benchmark Rod is the heaviest of them and a bit of a throw back to the old-school style  “stump pullers.” These may be too stiff for most people and are only really required if you're in an area where you encounter stubborn fish over 700 lbs+ or you like to use heavy drag consistently, so keep in mind the Benchmark Rod is a super, super stiff rod that barely bends until you have about 30 lbs of pressure on it.  I love them, but that style isn’t for everyone. 

The regular Grander Marlin Tackle Heavy Chair Rod will be best suited for most heavy tackle applications. These are super stiff, too – considered a 180 tackle blank – but they do have a nice flex in the tip with a smooth bounce back and parabolic play to help the angler. These are a bit more classic style heavy tackle chair rods. We will also have a few sized down versions for 80 and also for a pitch or stand up/chair pitch scenario.  

All rods come in the custom GMT Purple Drip with the large shell insert at the base.
