Grander Marlin Tackle Jetted Hook Locks

All Grander Marlin Tackle products are designed by our very own Capt. Chris Donato of Grander Marlin Sportfishing. This rubber hook lock was specifically designed for jetted lures, although they similarly work perfect with non-jetted lures.

The function of a rubber hook lock is pretty self explanatory - They are intended to lock the hook in place in the desired hook position. This works especially well for stiff rigged or semi-stiff rigs while lure fishing for billfish but also works great for tuna rigs, wahoo rigs, and other pelagic hook rigs. Without a hook lock, in order to lock the hook rig in position would require doing what we call the "toothpick method" where you would have to jam broken pieces of toothpicks or something similar that would "lock" the hook set in place by jamming the leader inside the leader tubing of the lure head - Of course this has it's cons as you can puncture the leader material or hurt the integrity of the leader.

This is where the jetted hook lock comes in - Toothpicking is no longer necessary, and the jets will now function as designed and not be covered up like on a traditional rubber hook lock.

One other benefit of these hook locks is that they are not near as tall as your traditional hook lock with a height of only 0.5" vs. 1" on the coned hook locks. In particular it is beneficial with smaller lures that end of offering more flex than desired with how long the smaller hook locks are in diameter.
