To finish off our 2023 Top Sellers list, the MARLIN MAGIC Ruckus lead the way at #1, holding onto the top position from 2022.
Ruckus sales nearly doubled from last year as it continues to be our highest selling bait, and for that very reason we continually bring in new color patterns and re-stock some of our best selling colors.
We released some really cool custom color patterns this year including the Guacamaya, Mahi Mahi, Black Death, Salt & Pepper, Chartreuse, & Ice Blue Black Back. Expect a lot more new custom work in 2024.
But the two hottest selling colors from 2023 were the Rainbow Mother of Pearl Black Back color with black vinyl over rainbow pattern Newells (a Marlin Parker favorite from last season) as well as the "1139" White Awabi Shell Blue Back with Doll Eyes, skirted in blue vinyl over white and blue Newells, which caught an 1139# Grander last summer by Capt. Mike Dakil out of Kona.
Onto the story behind the Original Ruckus:
The 12" Original Ruckus was first developed in the Mid 1980's. In fact, the Ruckus and the Smokey Joe were both created on the same day as two of the very first innovative short-nosed slanted baits for Marlin fishing. The long nosed Plunger style lure was a thing of course, but these shorter nosed baits were something out-of-the-norm for handmade lures at that time.

The first prototype was hand shaped from the Big Dog mold, and only 3 were made and distributed around the harbor. That being said, the Ruckus caught so many big fish in its first week that Marlin & Gary both knew they were onto something special. Marlin Parker's dock neighbor and good friend Jerome Judd came up with the "Ruckus" name.

It's not a stretch to say that the Ruckus had a major influence on the current market of Marlin Lures with the plethora of short-nosed designs that we now see flooding the market. The reputation of the Ruckus is what lure makers dream of when creating their designs and sharing their lures with the world - Only a few have ever tasted the success of the Ruckus.
