Slotting in at 4th in our 2022 Top Seller's list is the ALOHA LURES 9" Magic Malolo.
Just beating out it's Large big bro at #5 by a very small number is the 9" Magic Malolo, or as its lure maker Erik Rusnak calls it the 9" "Magic Bullet". Same drumstick shaped bullet as the Large version just more in a smaller "meat market" sized head, useful for a variety of pelagic species.
Capt. Chris Donato & Erik had a fantastic discussion in our YouTube interview on this exact bait. In the interview, Erik called this 9" version out as one of his 2 absolute personal favorites, a perfect meat fish bait. Part of his quote states, "And that lure, that I have been making a variation of for probably over 30 years, that is one I always feel like I'm 'fishing' when it's in the spread.... I'm a meat fisherman at heart, and that lure is the one."
Later on in the interview, Erik goes into the swim action of the bait. The blunt nose on the Magic Malolo gives it a bit more of a "pop" relative to other bullet shapes, a different more aggressive swim pattern than you might expect. Erik recommends the Magic Malolo especially for rougher waters, an excellent bullet for the roughest of seas as it "locks in" despite the conditions.
Chris actually first heard about this lure from Ross Finlayson & former deckhand & GZ Flashabou specialist Hannah Drake. They love this 9" sized lure and put a bug in Chris's ear about it before he fell in love with the Large size.
We will end this by saying if it's one of Erik Rusnak's 2 personal favorites, arguably his favorite meat fish bait, then it's probably worth trying out. Aloha Lures put out some absolutely killer baits, many heavily coveted and very well known, so mark this one up as a winner. Easily one of our hottest lures of 2022, and again another one that we had a seriously tough time keeping in stock until the very end of the year. For an all species killer, this one comes highly recommended.
