Jackpot Lures
Jackpot Lures are handmade by Del Wheaton out of Kona. Del was a charter Captain in Kona starting in 1994 for about 15 years when he decided to focus on more commercial fishing offshore for roughly another 15 years.
Our first offering of Jackpot Lures will include The Cameltoe & the “Billy Ross” inspired Big Blue as well as some 8" Small Bullets.
Del spent a lot of time fishing with Billy Ross back in the day and was a big part of his inspiration in getting into lure making himself. While the Big Blues are slightly different than Billy Ross’s famous bullets, Del wanted to create a bullet that gave proper respect to the man including getting the exact weight of 330g down for his Big Blues. We caught a bunch of fish on the Big Blue during this tournament season in Kona and were pretty sold on them from that point on. For a while it was the only lure getting eaten. There’s a handful of guys in Kona that were running the original prototypes along with Chris and were catching a lot of fish on them, so locally there has been quite the demand for his lures. The lure is properly keeled to sit upright.
The Cameltoe is a story in and of itself - properly named by Capt. Momi Bean. Besides the oddly shaped nose it also incorporates weight chamber technology that can be adjusted on the fly when sea conditions vary. It’s a cool little concept that we think some of you rougher water guys will really dig especially. We’ve personally ran the lure ourselves and really were surprised with how well the lure stayed true without wandering off doing weird things. The lure is properly keeled to sit upright. Quick tip on the Weight Chambers: Do not apply more than 5lbs of pressure when tightening the bolts as it could easily crack the insert with too much pressure. Once you feel them begin to tighten, they should be good to go.
The 8" Small Bullet is a broomstick style bullet but when compared to others like the Aloha Magic Malolo & Marlin Magic AP it is a bit more slender and not quite as rounded of a nose. This will basically catch any and all pelagics including Billfish, Tuna, Mahi, & Wahoo. They are also have a triangular insert which naturally keels the bait when most bullets are not keeled and are also very heavy for their size at 5.3oz in lead weight. Due to its weight they will handle all sea conditions better than most.
