Doxey Lures are handmade by Captain Ryan Doxey out of Alvin, Texas. Ryan grew up around fishing as his dad and uncle ran charter boats while growing up. His uncle specifically, Captain Kenneth Doxey, was one of the most influential and motivating people in his career. This led to him fishing in his first marlin tournament at the age of 16, where they placed 2nd. Shortly after, at the age of 18 in 2002, he built his first lure.
His fishing experience involves working on several boats all over the country including locations such as the Bahamas, Panama, Costa Rica, and Australia. Here in the US, Ryan was Captain of the Over-Ride for seven years while fishing the Gulf Coast Tournaments. He is also currently a freelance mate and Captain.
To date, the largest Blue Marlin weighed on Doxey Lures was actually just caught in April 2020 on a Large BP Cup in Port O'Connor, Texas on the True Story. Several larger fish have been reported, however, including an 850+ on the GBR. Total tournament winnings add up to around $1 million.
For a little side story, our first interactions with Ryan Doxey involved a charity donation auction to the Houston Big Game Fishing Club after Hurricane Harvey hit back in 2017. Ryan is a part of the Houston fishing community and openly reached out to us to offer his lures up for auction along with what we were already offering.
After the auction, we received very positive feedback from customers who tried them out for the first time - The feedback among loyal Doxey Lures customers was already extremely positive, but this was reassurance that there would inevitably be an opportunity for us to make Doxey Lures a part of the GZ future. It took a couple years, but we are very proud to announce their addition to our already stellar worldwide lure line-up.
